In Ahmedabad, typhoid cases are on the rise. Between May 14 and 21, 66 new typhoid cases were reported in municipal hospitals.

A total of 177 typhoid cases were reported on May 21, which indicates a 59.5 % growth from the preceding week. Typhoid cases were significantly lower in 2021, with only 17 cases reported in May. In cases of diarrhea and jaundice, there was also a rising trend. Diarrhea instances surged from 395 on May 14 to 550 on May 21, compared to only four cases in May last year, while 110 cases of jaundice were reported until May 21, compared to 23 occurrences in May last year.

Cases of vector-borne diseases had been additionally growing and were more than 2021 as observed from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s (AMC) health department data. 59 cases of malaria and 14 cases of dengue were reported till May 21.  No fresh falciparum cases were registered last week

Complaints about mosquito control were registered by the AMC from its West, north-west, south and south-west zones. The department obtained 1,412 bacteriological samples, of which 24 were deemed to be unsuitable. Furthermore, 9,715 chlorine tests were performed this month, with 308 findings indicating the absence of residual chlorine. (ETHealthworld, May 25, 2022)
